The Role

We are looking for an experienced Data Governance Manager to lead a small team and drive the organisation's data governance and management strategy.

This is a hands-on leadership opportunity for someone who can bridge the gap between technology, data and the wider business. You'll play a key role in improving data ownership, stewardship, quality and governance while helping embed better data practices across the organisation. You'll also be involved in significant transformation initiatives, including post-merger integration and broader data transformation programs.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a small Data Governance team
• Drive the organisation's data governance and data management strategy
• Establish and improve data ownership, accountability and stewardship
• Develop and implement data governance policies, standards and frameworks
• Improve data quality, metadata, lineage and data management practices
• Work with business leaders and Data Stewards to embed governance into day-to-day operations
• Support major transformation, migration and integration initiatives
• Help develop and implement modern data governance and catalogue capabilities
• Partner with Data, Technology, Architecture and business teams
• Support data risk, regulatory and compliance requirements
• Drive greater data literacy and accountability across the organisation

Skills & Experience

• 5+ years' experience in Data Governance, Data Management or a closely related discipline
• Experience within banking, financial services, insurance or superannuation
• Proven experience leading data governance initiatives and improving organisational data maturity
• Experience managing or developing Data Stewards and/or data ownership frameworks
• Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills
• Experience working across large-scale transformation, migration, integration or change programs
• Strong understanding of data quality, metadata, lineage and data management
• Comfortable working with modern data platforms and governance tools such as Databricks, Microsoft Purview or similar
• Understanding of data risk and regulatory requirements within financial services
• A pragmatic, collaborative approach with the resilience and confidence to influence stakeholders and drive changes
