With a focus on modernising enterprise data platforms, strengthening governance, and embedding AI across engineering practices, the organisation is investing heavily in creating scalable, future-ready technology foundations.As part of this growth, an opportunity has arisen for an experienced Technical Data Lead to play a key role in shaping the future direction of the organisation's data and AI ecosystem.

Your new role
Reporting to the Head of Data, you will operate as the technical second-in-command for the data function, providing leadership across enterprise data, analytics and AI platforms.This is a strategic platform-focused position rather than a project delivery role. You will be responsible for defining and executing the technical roadmap across data and AI platforms, ensuring alignment with business objectives, technology strategy and future-state architecture.
Working closely with multiple engineering squads, architects and senior business stakeholders, you will establish technical standards, governance frameworks, operating models and best-practice engineering approaches that enable consistency and scalability across the organisation.
A key component of the role will be driving enterprise AI adoption. You will champion AI-assisted development, establish reusable AI templates and prompting standards, and help define how AI can be leveraged across engineering disciplines to improve productivity, quality and delivery outcomes.
You will act as a trusted technical advisor, identifying emerging technologies, evaluating platform enhancements, and advocating for innovative approaches that enhance the organisation's data and AI capabilities.

What you'll need to succeed

Extensive experience in Data Engineering, Data Platforms, Analytics Engineering or similar technical leadership roles.

Proven experience owning and delivering enterprise technology roadmaps and platform strategies.

Strong understanding of modern cloud-based data platforms, data architecture and platform governance.

Experience establishing engineering standards, technology frameworks and operating models.

Demonstrated experience driving AI adoption and AI-enabled engineering practices.

Knowledge of Generative AI, prompt engineering, AI-assisted software development and enterprise AI implementation.

Ability to define reusable frameworks, templates and standards that support scalable development across multiple platforms.

Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.

Experience working across multiple agile squads and complex enterprise environments.

Excellent communication skills with a passion for innovation, emerging technologies and continuous improvement.

Desirable experience

• Exposure to Microsoft Fabric or other modern analytics and data platform technologies.
• Experience working within secure or highly governed data environments.
• Background in Data Architecture, Solution Architecture or Platform Architecture.
• Experience developing AI governance frameworks and responsible AI practices.
• Experience supporting large-scale platform modernisation initiatives.
