What is the opportunity?

Join our First Line Financial Crime team and play a key role in helping protect the Bank and its customers from financial crime risk. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment where your judgement, analytical skills and decision-making capability will make a real difference. You'll be empowered to make evidence-based decisions on customer relationships, build specialist Anti-Money Laundering (AML) expertise, and work closely with colleagues across the Group. In this role, you will:
  • Conduct independent reviews of customer relationships where financial crime concerns have been identified, making evidence-based decisions on customer retention or exit.
  • Assess customer profiles, source of funds and source of wealth to support customer due diligence and financial crime risk assessments.
  • Gather, analyse and evaluate customer information to support investigations, risk assessments and case outcomes.
  • Provide AML and customer due diligence guidance to frontline teams, helping to support consistent and risk-based decision-making.
  • Work closely with stakeholders across the Bank to strengthen processes, enhance controls and support the effective management of financial crime risk.

What will make you stand out?
  • You will bring experience working in a financial crime, compliance, risk or related environment, along with the confidence to make fair, balanced and evidence-based decisions. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail and sound judgement will help you succeed in this role.
  • At least three years' experience in an AML, financial crime, compliance, risk or similar role.
  • Knowledge of AML, customer due diligence and financial crime regulatory requirements.
  • Experience conducting customer exit reviews, enhanced due diligence investigations or customer due diligence assessments.
  • Experience engaging directly with customers to gather information and support risk assessments.
  • The ability to challenge information constructively, identify key risks and solve complex problems.

More about the team

The First Line Financial Crime team is responsible for identifying, assessing and managing financial crime risks across a range of business areas including BOIUK Retail and Commercial, NI Mortgages, Post Office and Northridge. The team provides specialist AML and customer due diligence expertise, supporting colleagues to make informed and risk-based decisions.

By combining oversight, guidance and constructive challenge, the team helps ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, internal policies and the Bank's risk appetite. You'll join a supportive and knowledgeable team where collaboration, continuous learning and making a meaningful impact are valued.

This is a hybrid role, based primarily in Belfast. We typically ask colleagues to spend a minimum of 8 days per month working in-person to support collaboration and connection. Specific arrangements will be confirmed by your recruiter to ensure they meet the needs of the role and team.
