Our client is in the process of establishing an investment advisory firm in London which will replace an existing investment firm that is currently based outside of the UK. The investment office will provide investment advisory services to an offshore asset holding structure.

The Business Manager will support the Managing Director, and the front and back office in the day-to-day operations of the business.  This individual will have proven experience in managing an array of broad and complex cross-functional projects, liaising with both internal and external stakeholders and will recognise what is required to deliver efficient results to the management team and Board.  They will be resourceful, highly organised and an excellent communicator with first-class execution skills.  They will be personable, credible, process-oriented and diligent and their style of execution will command a strong level of ‘buy-in’ from the executive and non-executive team.   

Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Co-ordinating projects/programmes across front and back office, communications, regulatory, human capital/resources, governance and legal functions.
  • Building strong stakeholder relationships off the back of proven asset/wealth management and/or SFO sector experience. Ability to operate across workstreams.
  • Meeting internal and external stakeholder demands by formulating innovative propositions and solutions. 
  • Being the ‘right hand’ to the MD across all functional elements of the business, with a clear ‘360 degree’ view of the group’s operations.
  • Management of consistent, clear and concise communications, up and down the command chain, on behalf of the MD at both non-executive and executive level.

Qualifications

  • Project/programme management experience within asset / wealth management and/or single/multi-family office space.   Demonstrable track record in working across workstreams and managing multiple people’s expectations with different agendas.
  • Ability to enhance existing solutions, and develop new ones, with specific emphasis on operational and functional excellence and best practice.
  • Prior asset/wealth management experience with exposure to programmes of operational set-up, change and/or development.  Strong understanding of asset/wealth management industry and ideally of business processes across the front and back office.
  • Excellent communications skills, both in a formal presentational context and informally on a day-to-day basis.  Observant, shrewd and astute with insight and initiative given the high level of exposure they will have across the business in supporting the MD on a daily basis.
  • Ideally some product and regulatory change knowledge.  Understanding of the multi-manager arena is a bonus but not a prerequisite.
  • Ideally some familiarity with Performance Management tools.  This individual will be assisting the MD in keeping track of both front and back office KPI.           
  • Functional knowledge of the distinction between front, middle and back office processes performed for asset / wealth management firms.
  • Consulting experience within the family office space is desirable but not a prerequisite.
  • Entrepreneurial, enthusiastic and personable individual with a willingness to ‘get their hands dirty’.

Reporting Line

The Business Manager reports to the Managing Director.
