The overall purpose of this role is to provide coordination between the Bank’s management and the Shariah Supervisory Board (SSB) to enable the SSB to fulfil its Shariah supervisory role and to also conduct periodic Shariah auditing.

Gatehouse Bank is a subsidiary of Gatehouse Financial Group Limited, which is a holding company for Gatehouse Bank (based in London and Milton Keynes) and Gatehouse Capital (based in Kuwait). Gatehouse Bank is a Shariah-compliant bank offering savings products and finance for UK commercial and residential real estate, in addition to sourcing and advising on UK real estate investments with a focus on the build to rent sector.

Key responsibilities

  • Liaising with the SSB to procure Shariah guidance and document review. 
  • Arranging the meetings of the SSB and acting as secretary to the SSB.
  • Gathering management information requested by the SSB.
  • Facilitating audit of the Bank’s activities by the SSB for the purposes of the annual SSB report and preparing the draft report for issue by the SSB.
  • Ensuring Shariah policies and procedures are periodically reviewed and approved.
  • Coordinate the provision of Shariah training.
  • Coordinate work required to fulfil any Shariah advisory mandates of the Bank.
  • Perform periodic auditing of the Bank’s activities, to assess Shariah compliance.
  • Preparing the Shariah audit reports, for the benefit of management and SSB.
  • Deliver Shariah training modules to staff.
  • Manage Shariah budget and resources.
  • Support and manage relationship between management and the SSB.
  • As required, attend and report to any committees relevant to the efficient delivery of the role.

 

Skills required

  • Experience in the application of Shariah in banking transactions.
  • A relevant qualification in Shariah, law or compliance would be desirable.

 

 

Required knowledge:

  • Knowledge of Shariah-compliant financial products and markets.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Good organisation and records and time management skills.
  • Arabic language skills an advantage
