Our client is looking for a Senior Linux System Administrator to join a specialist security team supporting a big data platform for a UK critical national infrastructure customer. You'll need solid hands-on Linux administration experience alongside a strong understanding of IT security and infrastructure.
Working Patterns and location - Hybrid - 9 days on site per fortnight
Key responsibilities
• Administer, maintain, and improve Linux server environments across production and development platforms.
• Support and manage VMware vSphere environments, including VMs, resource allocation, and host configuration.
• Develop and maintain automation solutions using Ansible to streamline deployments and configuration.
• Troubleshoot complex issues across OS, networking, performance, and storage.
• Support interoperability with Windows Server systems where required.
• Contribute to DevOps practices and continuous improvement of the platform.
• Ensure platform security requirements are met in line with rapidly changing customer needs.
Skills & experience
expected to have everything:
• Strong hands-on experience administering Linux environments in a production setting.
• Proven ability to troubleshoot complex issues across OS, networking, storage, and performance.
• Experience writing and maintaining scripts to automate tasks and configuration.
• Solid understanding of IT security principles and secure infrastructure management.
• Experience working with IT infrastructure in a continuous integration or DevOps environment.
• Ability to manage and maintain large-scale, complex server environments.
The client would also like to see some of the below, but this is not essential:
• Strong experience with RHEL, Rocky Linux or similar enterprise Linux distributions.
• Hands-on experience with VMware vSphere and ESXi administration.
• Practical experience with Ansible or similar configuration management and automation tools.
• Proficiency in Bash shell scripting.
• Solid understanding of networking, storage management, and Linux permissions.
