To be considered, you'll need solid commercial experience with Java and C++, a strong grasp of software architecture and design patterns, and hands-on knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, containerisation with Docker, and RESTful API development. Working Patterns and location - Fully on site




Key responsibilities



• Design, develop, and maintain high-performance backend software in Java and C++ within Linux environments.



• Lead technical design and implementation of software components, services, and APIs.



• Provide technical mentoring and leadership to junior and mid-level engineers.



• Conduct code reviews and enforce software engineering best practices across the team.



• Build, maintain, and improve RESTful APIs, microservices, and distributed applications.



• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps practices using tools such as GitLab and Jenkins.



• Containerise applications using Docker for scalable and efficient deployment.



• Collaborate with customers and cross-functional teams to translate requirements into technical solutions.




Skills & experience



• 5+ years of commercial software development experience in Java and/or C++ within Linux environments.



• Strong knowledge of software architecture, design patterns, and object-oriented programming principles.



• Experience developing enterprise-scale backend applications, RESTful APIs, and distributed systems.



• Hands-on experience with Spring Boot and reactive programming frameworks such as Spring Reactive.



• Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitLab CI/CD, Jenkins, or Azure DevOps.



• Experience with containerisation technologies, particularly Docker.



• Strong knowledge of version control systems, particularly Git, Bitbucket, or GitLab.



• Experience working within Agile software development environments with strong problem-solving ability.




The client would also like to see some of the below, but this is not essential:



• Experience with GitLab pipelines for automated build and deployment workflows.



• Familiarity with ElasticSearch and Kibana for log management and data visualisation.



• Knowledge of NoSQL database technologies such as MongoDB.



• Experience with messaging platforms such as Kafka or RabbitMQ.



• Familiarity with ScalaTest or other Scala-based testing frameworks.



• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.
