Veteran FX salesperson joins UOB in Singapore

Veteran FX salesperson Syahril Hidayat Andia has joined UOB from Toronto-Dominion Bank (TD).

Andia is now an executive director in global markets FX sales, financial institutions, at UOB, according to his LinkedIn profile.

He spent more than six years at TD, latterly as director for FX sales. Andia began his FX career back in 1997 with a stint of almost 10 years at RBC Capital Markets. He then worked at director level for ING and Societe Generale.

Andia’s hire comes about 10 months after we revealed that UOB had appointed one of Singapore’s top FX traders, Mohammed Yousoof – formerly of ANZ – as head of FX, group trading.

In December 2021, UOB joined several other banks – including Goldman Sachs, Deutsche Bank, JP Morgan, and Barclays – in announcing the launch of an electronic FX pricing and trading engine in Singapore, aimed at reducing latency and giving clients access to more competitive FX pricing.

Since then the Monetary Authority of Singapore has been encouraging financial institutions to set up FX trading hubs in a push to establish the city state as a major player in the sector.

This is triggering more hiring in FX sales and trading as well as in technology, operations, and business development.

Recent moves in the FX space in Singapore include Nomura’s appointment of Hoe Lon Leng from Standard Chartered as global head of FX flow and e-FX. Ruchir Sharma, Credit Suisse’s Singapore-based head of APAC FX Trading, is understood to be joining Deutsche Bank.
