UBS's head of EMEA global markets is taking some time out. His schedule was quite intense

A job that requires lots of travel is a lot like Marmite. Some people love the opportunity and variety, while others hate the discombobulation and distance from friends and family. But how much do the most senior bankers travel? A UBS chief might provide some insight.

Paolo Crocé, UBS head of global markets for EMEA, has been on a sabbatical since March. Before stepping back from the firm, he was on a veritable road show.

Sometime around March 2025, Crocé was in the GCC to meet “key clients” in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Bahrain. Later in the month, he was in Geneva to meet key clients. And in April, a few weeks later, Crocé was in Sao Paolo, once again to meet key clients. And finally, towards the end of May 2025, he said he was in Zurich “recently” to meet clients.

Crocé seemed to take some short time off from travelling, and in late August 2025 was in Paris, once again meeting key clients as well as joining a roundtable with Parisian banking juniors. In October, two months later, he was in Madrid, and he was – you guessed it – meeting clients. Not too long after that, he met clients in New York.

Around the same time as the Madrid and New York trips, Crocé was in South Africa for the bank’s 30-year anniversary for the opening of a swanky new Cape Town office. He also met clients there. In November, just after the three-continent odyssey, he was in Milan. He met clients there.

Two months later, in January, Crocé was in Shanghai to meet clients. A few days later, he followed that up with another trip to Paris to meet clients. And finally, some time shortly after that, Crocé started his sabbatical.

There is no suggestion that the sabbatical is related to his travel schedule. Crocé has spent 22 years so far at UBS. He didn't respond to a request to comment for this article and UBS declined to comment on his intentions.
