Jump Trading just filed UK accounts with Companies House for the year ending 2023. They suggest that the high frequency trading firm is a lucrative place to work.

In 2023 'Jump Trading International Limited' employed 271 people and paid them each an average of $795k per head. This generosity came despite Jump’s comparatively low profitability in the UK: profits last year were $66.6m, an average of $183.9k per head.

Last year, Jump added 10 people in London, including software engineer Gerald Low from Palantir and quant trader Thomas Pastore from Citi.

It seems that Jump may pay more, in salaries at least, than 'Jane Street UK Partnership LLP'. That entity employed 636 people in 2023 and generated average profits of $917.4k per head while paying $680k in ‘salaries allowances and benefits in kind’. However, this doesn't take into consideration an additional $583.5m of profit sharing at Jane Street's UK Partnership. These profits appear to have been directed to Jane Street's global business. Jane Street is known for an egalitarian approach to compensation and for sharing profits with staff around the world.

Jump Trading is more of a high frequency firm than Jane Street. A recent article in the Financial Times said Jane Street tends to hold its positions for days and sometimes weeks, as well as operating in less liquid markets like corporate bonds.

Error in the article. Couture recently LEFT Jump (to join Verition). Jump unsuccessfully tried to sue him to stop the move.
