Deutsche Bank’s new infrastructure CTO is a Goldman Sachs veteran

Deutsche Bank is knee deep in some serious investment into its technology team. Although much of its investment is in Romanian & Indian supporting offices, new technologists are also showing up at its core offices.

Vanessa Yiu has joined the German bank in London to lead its group infrastructure team. She most recently spent three years before that at UBS, where she was head of core engineering. Most of her career, though, was spent at Goldman Sachs, where she worked for two decades.

Yiu’s move to UBS from Goldman Sachs was a coup at a time when the Swiss bank was shifting to Agile and decommissioning old apps. She seems to have performed admirably in her role and was named a tech fellow in 2024.

Yiu’s role at Deutsche Bank seems pretty clear. At its 2025 investor day this week, Deutsche Bank said that it wants to slash its app count by at least 20% in the corporate bank and by 15% in the investment bank.

It also expects at least €2.1bn in revenue growth in its corporate and investment banks, from its tech investments alone, by 2028. That needs to come with €400m in technology savings and cost reductions. Yiu has quite the job on her hands.
